The impending box office clash of Akshay Kumar’s Rustom and Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro has got the industry talking. Neither this is the first time, nor that last, when the industry is going gaga over two films sharing the same release-date. It’s not just about the films as much as it is about the personalities battling with each other and that is what leads to the fuss and the headlines.
While the first half of the year has already witnessed some face offs, the second half seems to be offering even more of it. As Bollywood fanatics gear up for this week's big releases, we bring you a list of other films which are about to get your curiosity piqued.
Akshay Kumar’s Rustom VS Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro
Mohenjo Daro, a period drama, set in Indus Valley civilisation is geared up to enter the field with an action thriller based on the sensational Nanavati case this weekend, i.e. August 12. One would expect Hrithik to be visibly miffed with celebrities extending an out-and-out support for Akshay's upcoming film but his latest tweet promoting both the films has put an end to the ongoing debate and has also set a benchmark for the growing friendships in the industry. While Rustom trailer shows the film to be a gritty reel version of the incident that led to the removal of the jury system in India, Hrithik's magnificent drama plans to enthrall viewers with a larger-than-life plot.
Kay Kay Menon's San 75 Pachchatar VS Abhay Deol's Happy Bhaag Jaayegi
It definitely makes for an interesting weekend when two films of totally different genres get ready to battle at the box office. Kay Kay Menon, who has a knack of impressing with his nuanced performances in films like Black Friday and Haider is back with San 75 Pachattar on August 19, the same day when Happy Bhaag Jaayegi starring Abhay Deol, Jimmy Sheirgill and Diana Penty is slated to release. While the former one revolves around the first mobile phone (prototype) being introduced in the country, the later one depicts a cross-border chase and promises to tickle the funny bone of viewers with a classic dose of comic-love story.
Salman Khan’s Freaky Ali VS Katrina Kaif’s Baar Baar Dekho
You know it’s an important weekend when past lovers Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif encounter each other in the most intriguing way possible; no it’s not a personal argument but a full-fledged box office war! The two have often made headlines for their quarrels, rivalries and them being spotted together but this time it’s all the more interesting. Featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Arbaz Khan and Amy Jackson, Freaky Ali traces the journey of a poor man from being a nobody to being the master of a sport considered to be a rich man’s game. While the film has been directed by Sohail Khan, it’s the third film under Salman Khan Productions after the superhit films Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Hero.
Nitya Mehta’s directorial Baar Baar Dekho starring Katrina Kaif, Sidharth Malhotra, hitting the theatres on September 9, is going to ace up the day for cinema lovers. The film appears to be an unconventional love story with an element of time travel spicing up the plot. It has been co-produced by Karan Johar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar.
Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay VS Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil
Ajay Devgn’s intense eyes, action sequences, scenic backdrops will share the space with Karan Johar’s exotic locales and a romantic tale. Shivaay, an action-adventure film not only stars Ajay Devgn in the lead but also marks his second directorial venture after U Me Aur Hum, the Bollywood debut of Dilip Kumar’s grand niece Sayessha Saigal and Polish actress Erica Kaar. To grab the biggest pie of the box-office collections can sometimes be a tedious task that has the potential of turning ugly and sour. Another film releasing on the same day is Ae Dil Hai Mushkil features Ranbir Kapoor , Aishwarya Rai and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles. Directed by Karan Johar, the film revolves around relationships and heartbreaks.
Be it a long weekend to cash in on or a holiday to increase the bucks coming in, filmmakers have their own set of reasons to justify the clashes. Looks like Bollywood lovers are in for some serious treat for the rest of 2016.
