Senior Lawyer Requests Prison Officer To Deny Special Facilities To Darshan In Jail

Kannada superstar Darshan Thogudeepa is currently in judicial custody for the Renukaswamy Murder Case at Parappana Agarhara Jail. The judicial custody of the actor ended on August 1. In the absence of a jail application from his lawyers and investigation officials’ plea to keep the actor in judicial custody until the chargesheet, the custody has reportedly increased till the next hearing. Amid this, the actor faced another shock after senior lawyer Amritesh wrote a letter to the IG of the Prisons Department to not provide any special facilities for Darshan in the jail. Darshan has a huge fan base in Karnataka but he does not carry any post of MLA, P or any statutory post. The lawyer has pleaded in the letter that no politician with VIP status is a common person/citizen in the eyes of the law, so he should be treated as a common citizen under the law. He claimed that Darshan cannot avail any special facilities as per law.

In the Karnataka Prisons & Correctional Manual 2021, Prisons Act 1963, Prison Rules 1974 mentioned in the reference letter that they cannot get household food, clothes, bedding, writing utensils, AC, table and chair to the prisoner. If necessary, the IG may approve of such facilities, subject to examination under the Prison Act 1963. The senior lawyer further mentioned that from its weight to the supply of meat, the jail rules mention the quantity of each. The lawyer wrote a letter to the IG that if Darshan gets this facility, other prisoners are also likely to get such a facility.

Kannada superstar Darshan Thogudeepa recently filed a petition for home-cooked meals and proper beds. The actor, who is known for his muscular physique, argued through his lawyer that the prison food was insufficient to maintain his health. He added that it had caused him bouts of diarrhoea and indigestion. As per reports, he requested home-cooked food, separate clothing and proper bedding to address this issue. The High Court has rejected this plea.

Darshan is allegedly involved in the murder of Renukaswamy, who reportedly sent lewd messages to his long-time partner Pavithra Gowda.
