In a recent interview, Shekhar Suman talked about a prank played on him by Shashi Kapoor and Girish Karnad during the filming of Utsav. They jokingly told him he had to shoot a nude scene for the film. Shekhar, thinking it was true, started crying. But then, Shashi Kapoor and Girish Karnad burst out laughing and told him it was just a joke.
During the Honestly Speaking podcast, Shekhar said, “They said, ‘You will have to expose your butt during a love-making scene’. They told me I am standing against a window then I walk and I am sort of naked. I started crying and said I can’t do nude scenes.”
Shekhar had earlier opened up on the intimate scenes. During a chat with Siddharth Kannan, Shekhar had shared that Rekha was very professional on set and never refused physical contact in scenes, unlike other actresses. “She was an absolute professional. I’ll forever be indebted to her,” he said. Suman added that he had never encountered a more professional actor than her. He also recalled an incident where there was a Income Tax raid at her house on the first day of the shoot. “Any other actor would have packed their bags and gone away. She said, ‘Let them do their job, I’ll stay back and do mine’. I was afraid that my world had come crashing down, that she would leave and the film would get cancelled, my dreams would be shattered,” remembered Suman.
