‘Ghayal Once Again’, the sequel of ‘Ghayal’ was undoubtedly one of the most successful films of actor Sunny Deol’s career. As the film returns after 26 years, the expectations are obviously huge. While the target audience wasn’t even born when the sequel was released, the film is expected to find huge takers, courtesy Sunny Deol’s huge fan base.
Going by the action heroes we have seen in Bollywood films, there is a lot more to them than just physical strength. And Sunny, a naturally serious-minded actor, who has earned considerable acclaim for his cinematic performances, has proved that tough men are also popular for what they speak.
When we asked writer Sanjay Masoom, if it was a conscious effort to give Sunny hard-hitting dialogues in the sequel, he said, “It is not Sunny Deol that I write for but the character that he plays. So while penning the dialogues for him, I let the focus be on the character and Sunny's persona. In ‘Ghayal’, Ajay Mehra was aggressive so the dialogues had to reflect that too, but in ‘Ghayal Once Again’, he will come across as a much more mature character. Hence, the dialogues had to be toned down, slightly. When you’ll watch the film, you’ll realise there is only one instance where he gets aggressive which is why his dialogues get hard hitting.”
But since Sunny is known for his powerful voice and distinct style of dialogue delivery, was a lot of attention paid to his dialogues? “Not completely. The focus here was more on the journey of Ajay Mehra, and the story of the film. So I had to consider the overall story while writing so that everything is in sync,” he replied.
Like other actors, who don’t mind adding dialogues impromptu, Sunny doesn't thrust his decision, but makes suggestions. “All the lines are written well in advance. But yes, in the field of art there is always a scope for improvisation. However, some times Sunny follows his instincts as an actor and suggests changes.”
