Mumbai: Actress Raima Sen is keen that a noted filmmaker like Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Mani Ratnam comes on board to direct a biopic of her celebrated grandmother, late actress Suchitra Sen.
Actress Vidya Balan is said to have turned down the offer to play the lead role in the biopic.
Talking about it, Raima said: "I have been in talks with some producers since two years for my grandmother's biopic. Vidya Balan was approached for the role, but due to some date issues, she refused. I want the biopic on my grandmother to be made and I want it to be directed by either Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Mani Ratnam."
Vidya had stated in a media report that while she would have loved to essay a legend like Suchitra Sen on screen, but she didn't find any physical resemblance with her. Besides that, she felt that since it was going to be a Bengali film, Raima could do the role better.
Raima's performance has been appreciated in films like 'Parineeta', 'Eklavya- The Royal Guard', 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd' and 'Chokher Bali'. She has recently starred in "Bollywood Diaries".
About her own journey in the industry, she said: "I was from a film background, so getting a break in Bollywood was easy, but I could not sustain that because I was too lazy to be on my toes in the film industry."
After her inconsistent spell of Hindi films, Raima stressed that she is now determined to remain active in Bollywood.
