Directed by the famous filmmaker duo Abbas-Mastan, this film is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Bipasha Basu in lead roles. Ajnabee was released at the cinema halls on September 21, 2001. This film is particularly remembered for Akshay’s performance, who won the audience’s hearts with his portrayal of the antagonist Vikram Bajaj. He even won the Filmfare Award for the best actor in a negative role category for his performance. He also bagged the Awards of The International Indian Film Academy, Sansui Viewer’s Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards. Bipasha Basu also left the audience mesmerised by her acting skills and won the Filmfare Award and Awards of The International Indian Film Academy.

In an old interview, Bipasha recalled the experience of acting in this film. She said, “Not very often do you get a chance to perform a character so nuanced and unconventional for your first film. With Ajnabee, I had so much to do with my role.” She added, “A thriller peels like an onion – layer by layer – and it allows you to play with those layers. So, with my debut character Sonia itself, I had an opportunity to explore my range as an artist. It was an incredible experience to work with Abbas-Mustan and the whole team.”

Another aspect of this film that garnered immense limelight amongst the audience is its music. One of the hit songs from Ajnabee’s soundtrack is the track Mehbooba Mehbooba sung by Adnan Sami and Sunidhi Chauhan. Anu Malik composed the music for this track penned by Sameer.

Interesting facts about Ajnabee:
