New Delhi: As the lead star cast and the director of ‘Kapoor and Sons’ sat down for a question-answer round with the press on Tuesday morning most of the questions were thrown at Pakistani actor Fawad Khan.
Khan features in director Shakun Batra’s ensemble film ‘Kapoor and Sons’ along with Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt, Rishi Kapoor, Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah. From Shahid Afridi, to Pakistan’s love for Indian films- Fawad Khan answered all questions and even posed happily for selfies with all his fans.
Khan was asked that what is basic difference between Pakistan and Indian film industry? “Pakistani films had a sudden demise in the 80s and then just kept going backward. Things are better now. Industry has now rebooted again. The scale now is small and its slowly picking up. So perhaps the scale and finances differ in both the industries. But the craft and sensibilities are the same.” Expressing how he has grown up watching Indian films throughout his childhood, Fawad stated that if ever a remake of ‘Guide’ was to be made- he would love to be a part of it.
When asked if there is any Indian film that Fawad Khan would like to remake in Pakistan, the actor promptly replied “‘Mr India’” and added, “ ‘Mr India’ ko ‘Mr Pakistan’ banana padega, I think. I would love to play Anil Kapoor’s role in the film.”
News had it that Khan opted out of ‘PK’ because he was keen on doing ‘Kapoor and Sons’. But the actor cleared the air on the matter and said, “’PK’ was offered when I was doing ‘Khoobsurat’. ‘Kapoor and Sons’ was not there in the scene at all back then. I said no to ‘PK’ because my dates were assigned to ‘Khoobsurat’.”
The actor plays Sidharth Malhotra’s brother in the film which has been produced by Dharma Productions. Was it difficult to break the ice initially for both the actors, we asked. “It was not difficult but we needed to have some comfort level to play brothers so that took some time,” replied Malhotra and added, “There was a scene where both the brothers are sharing a room and high on some stuff they have smoked and laughing. To break the ice, I started cussing in Punjabi at Fawad and he started laughing making the shot look natural.”
Shakun Batra’s ‘Kapoor and Sons’ releases on 18th March in theatres.
