Bobby Deol has been getting immense appreciation for his performance in the recently released film, Animal. The actor played the role of a menacing mute gangster named Abrar in the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial. However, in a recent interview, Bobby Deol mentioned that he didn’t think of his character as a villain but as somebody who was traumatised during his childhood. He even talked about violence in the film and argued that it is a reflection of our society.
Bobby Deol Opens Up On Violence In Animal
Animal has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by many. The film has also been criticised for its extreme violence. However, talking about the same, Deol mentioned people will be able to relate to it only when they watch the film. “The characters in this movie… the animal in them has woken up. They are all like animals. That’s why there’s violence. This is a family drama, a father-son story, and family relationships. It is a reflection of what happens in a society. Definitely action like that is visually created so that people get intrigued but that kind of action, that kind of violence exists in our society,” he said during a session at the Agenda AajTak 2023.
Bobby Deol Calls His Animal Character ‘Family-Oriented’
During the interaction, Bobby Deol also called his role in Animal “family-oriented” and “romantic”. “I didn’t think of my character as a villain. I saw my character as a child who was traumatised when he saw his grandfather committing suicide, so he loses his voice. He swears to avenge his grandfather’s death. He is very family-oriented. He is also romantic, he has three wives. He can kill and also get killed for his family,” he added.
What Do We Know About Animal?
Released on December 1, Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father (played by Anil Kapoor). However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father. His unhealthy relationship with his father also impacts his bond with his wife, essayed by Rashmika Mandanna. The film has already crossed the Rs 500 crore mark at the Indian box office.
