Internet Schools User For Calling IIT Bombay Students' Dance Performance 'Vulgar'
Said to be from IIT Bombay, the video shows a female student dancing to Malaika Arora's Munni Badnaam song at the college event.

Over the past several weeks, the internet has been debating the definition of dance performances at educational institutes, with a range of videos going viral of students at school and college events. In the latest one, a video showing a group of students dancing to the Munni Badnaam song has gained traction, leaving social media users divided. Said to be part of an event at IIT Bombay, the video features a woman dressed as Malaika Arora in a crop top and skirt, joined by several men in the background.

The video opens to show the girl performing the hook steps of the dance number while the boys matched her enthusiastically, amid loud cheers from the audience. “IIT Bombay vulgar dance, what’s your opinion on this?” the video’s caption read.

According to the YouTube channel of IIT Bombay Uncuts, the dance performance was led by the students of Hostel 5 at the institute. With a range of reactions, including sharp criticism, the video fuelled the already heated discussion on such student performances.

A user wrote, “I don’t find anything vulgar.”

Another commented, “Nothing vulgar in the dancing terms; you won’t even allow this?!”

A user added, “Haha, I didn’t know IIT Bombay had a dance style named vulgar dance! Maybe they’re just trying to add some spice to their routine. Who knows, it might become the next big trend!”

A user chimed in and supported such performances. “These days this type of dance is not in the vulgar category. This practice is normal in religious functions also. Be cool,” the comment read.

“They are getting much more money from reels than jobs…that’s why it’s happening nowadays,” one added.

Earlier in September, a video from a Teachers’ Day celebration at a school left internet users furious, with many even deeming it “vulgar” and “inappropriate.” In the clip, a group of schoolgirls were seen dancing to the popular song from Stree 2, Aaj Ki Raat, which originally features Tamannaah Bhatia.

From the song selection to the outfit choice for the students as well as the hook steps being performed, online users believed such activities are “uncivilised” and must be discouraged.
