“This year has been surreal for me. I am ecstatic,” exclaims Mona Singh who has had three releases as she played three diverse characters and received unanimous appreciation for all of them.
The year began with Kafas, in which the actor portrayed the role of a mother who must choose between her morals and her finances. In Made in Heaven 2, she is seen as a fearless and feisty businesswoman who conceals her fragility behind a harsh veneer. Singh ended the year on a high with Kaala Paani, where she finds herself amid a mystery sickness outbreak.
Singh, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, says that she is happy with the way things turned out this year, “An actor rarely has three back-to-back releases, and all of them are appreciated. People got to see me in three different shades. There’s much love from people on Instagram and everywhere else. I remember the love I received after the release of Laal Singh Chadha. But apart from the film, I was just shooting for various projects and was waiting for people to witness these shows. It’s just that these three shows were a complete standout and now people are appreciating me for all the things that I wanted to express as an actor. I am enjoying this new phase.”
The 3 Idiots actor credits OTT for her success, “OTT completely changed the game for actors like me, actors who were not getting the kind of work that they wanted to do. I’ve had the smoothest transition from TV to OTT and films. The writing and the kind of shows that are being made on this medium are so satisfying. A woman can be grey, she can be positive, she can be anything. I’m so glad that all the shades are coming out on streaming platforms.”
Singh rose to fame and became a household name with her debut project Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin which was released 20 years ago. Looking back at her two-decade career, the actor says that she is grateful for all the work that came her way, “A lot of hard work has gone into these last 20 years, but it’s very fulfilling. When I came into the industry, I was very sure of one thing: I didn’t want to be a one-show wonder. I kept reinventing myself with time. I think the patience and hard work have all paid off.”
Mona Singh is kicked about the New Year, “I am constantly shooting and I am busy till at least mid-next year. I have some interesting projects lined up with characters that I haven’t portrayed before. I plan to keep surprising myself and my loved ones with the work that I do.”
