Raj Kundra is all set for his acting debut in the film UT69. The film is based on Raj’s experience in jail in 2022 after being arrested in connection with a pornography case. In a recent interview, Raj opened up about his struggles when he was in custody and the trauma his family had to go through during that time. On a lighter note, the debutante also spoke about working opposite his wife and actress, Shilpa Shetty. Raj also shared about his connection with Bollywood from a very young age.
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, when Raj Kundra was asked if he had plans to work with Shilpa, he jokingly said, “I’m a newcomer. These A-listers won’t work with me." Although he added that he would “never say never." During this conversation, Raj claimed that he was always captivated by Bollywood and learned Hindi through films because Punjabi was his first language at home.
Further, Raj Kundra shared that his interest in acting is not new. At the age of 18, he attended Padmini Kolahpure’s acting school in London. When the trailer for his debut film UT69 was made, he showed it to his acting teacher, and Padmini Kolahpure told him that she has always believed in his acting ability and thinks it is not too late for him to make his mark in Bollywood.
In the interview, Raj Kundra also revealed that when he was 18, he had done his first photo shoot with Dabboo Ratnani. Raj shared that the celebrity photographer has been joking that he did have a portfolio made in 1990 but is making his debut in 2023.
UT69, directed by Shahnawaz Ali, is a satirical film based on the time Raj Kundra spent in Arthur Road jail. The trailer, which was released some time ago, showed glimpses of his struggles inside the prison. The film is slated to release on November 3.
Raj Kundra was arrested in July 2021 for allegedly creating and uploading pornographic films via mobile applications. After almost two months, he was given bail. Later, in 2022, Raj wrote to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stating that he was innocent and that his imprisonment was the result of a ‘personal vendetta’ by a businessman who colluded with police officers. Raj Kundra has also sought that the case must be investigated by the central agency, claiming that he was framed by senior officers of the Mumbai Crime Branch.
