Director Guy Ritchie’s 2019 action-comedy film The Gentlemen whipped up a favourable response from the audience upon its release. Now, after four years, Guy Ritchie is back in the director’s chair for the film’s follow-up story, bearing the same title. This time, however, it is a Netflix series. According to reports, apart from directing the first two episodes of The Gentlemen, Ritchie acts as a co-writer, creator, and executive producer of the upcoming web show. The previous cast of the film has been replaced with new faces, with Theo James heralding the series. Following the film’s popularity, The Gentleman’s new teaser has rightfully grabbed the attention of the masses.
The teaser offers a glimpse into the secret world of an aristocratic British family. “Do you know what I admire about the British aristocracy? They are original gangsters" says Theo James as he points his rifle at a target and shoots. Keeping the plot under wraps, The Gentlemen’s teaser indicates that the root of everything that happens is because of family property. Dark themes, a play of light and shadow, and lurking evilness under a veil of sophistication form the main highlight of the story. Mind games, witty discussions, ample violence, and action with plenty of barbaric killings and bloodshed seem to play a major part in The Gentlemen. Overall, Guy Ritchie’s new series promises a power-packed ride filled with many twists and turns.
As per the series description, The Gentlemen revolves around the Duke of Halstead, Eddie Horniman (Theo James) who inherits his father’s lavish country estate. However, he discovers that the property is part of a larger circle of a cannabis empire. The real trouble brews when dangerous gangsters from Britain’s feared underworld do a fraction of the operation. Although Eddie leaves no stone unturned to “extricate his family from their clutches" by trying to beat the ganglords at their own game, he “gets sucked into the world of criminality" and finds that it matches his taste.
