Aamir Khan said that producers need courage to make films with adult certification since half the audience base is eliminated.

The 2011 Bollywood comedy Delhi Belly was filled with violent vulgarity, toilet humour, and sexual candour. The movie is regarded as one of the best black comedies ever made in Indian cinema. The striking fact remains that Aamir Khan, who was till then known to make family-friendly films took a huge risk by producing a film with explicit adult content. Many netizens spoke against Aamir and questioned his decision at that time.

A video has now surfaced on Reddit in which Aamir Khan and Imran Khan appeared on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat and answered questions about the use of abusive language in the film. Aamir had a sharp reply to those questioning his decision and the video is now going viral.

“Film na gaali pe chalti hai na sex pe chalti na violence pe jab tak logon kahani pasand nhi ayegi nhi chalegi” – Amir khanbyu/BinaryReader inBollyBlindsNGossip

Aamir said in Hindi, “When we make a film, if we think that it is for adults, then it gets an adult certification. Then we leave it up to adults to decide whether they want to watch it or not.” Aamir was then asked if a superstar like him backs a film with “gaalis”, could it then become a trend? Aamir had an interesting reply.

He said, “I don’t think it will become a trend. A producer needs a lot of courage to make an adult’s film because he knows that half the audience will not come already. It’s a hard decision to make.”

“Mere hisaab se filme gaali pe nahi chalti hai. Film na gaali chalti hai na sex pe chalti hai na violence pe chalti hai. Aapko jitni gaali, sex aur violence daalna hai daal lijiye. Jab tak logo ko kahaani nahi pasand aayegi, scenes nahi pasand aayenge, kirdaar acche nahi lagenge… (I don’t think films work on abuses. Films neither work on abusive language, nor sex nor violence. Until people don’t like the story, scenes and characters…),” he added.
