India Asia Games medal tally: With five medals on Day 7, India remain in fourth place, medal haul rises to 38 with 10 gold, 14 silver, 14 bronze

The Indian contingent continues to go from strength to strength at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Medals continued to rain for India, as they managed to remain in fourth place, after adding 5 medals on Day 7, September 30.

Indian athletes on Saturday won 2 gold medals, two silver and a bronze to take the overall medals tally to 38.

Rohan Bopanna and Ruturaj Bhonsale won the gold medal in Tennis mixed doubles final, while the Indian men’s squash team defeated Pakistan in a closely fought contest to add two gold medals to India’s tally. It was double joy for India as Kartik Kumar and Gulveer Singh won a silver and bronze in the men’s 10,000m final in Athletics, whereas the mixed 10m Air Pistol team added a silver medal to keep India at fourth place in the overall standings.

There were plenty more positives for the Indian contingent, as the Indian men’s Badminton team beat South Korea 3-2 in the semifinal to assure another silver, they will play in the final gunning for a historic gold medal.

The Indian duo of Sutirtha & Ayhika Mukherjee stunned China’s Meng Chen and Yidi Wang 3-1 in the women’s table tennis quarterfinals to assure themselves of bronze and storm into the semifinals.

The Indian paddlers won 11-5, 11-5, 5-11 & 11-9, securing a first-ever medal for India in the category.

A week into the 19th Asian Games, the Indian contingent ensured that they went past the tally of the 2018 games in Jakarta, India had won 29 medals overall in 7 days back then, but a week in Hangzhou, the Indian contingent have claimed 38 medals, including 10 gold medals.

India remain in fourth place, with 10 gold medals, while the hosts China continued their dominance as they remain top. China

have picked up 114 gold medals, 68 silver medals and 34 bronze medals, taking their overall tally to 216. Japan meanwhile are in second place with 28 gold medals, 38 silver and 39 bronze taking their overall tally to 105.

The Republic of Korea are in third place, marginally behind Japan with 27 gold, 29 silver and 54 bronze medals, having an overall tally of 110 medals.

Uzbekistan are level with India on 10 gold medals, but they have 11 silver medals are thus behind India on fifth place, with 16 bronze, and overall 37 medals a week into the Hangzhou games.
