The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with ToneTag, has released the contactless payment method, which will work exclusively on the car’s infotainment system.
The company has named the advance payment option Pay-by-Car, which will be used for making fuel payments without using wallets or smartphones. The company also showcased the feature in the king-size SUV MG Hector at Global Fintech Fest.
In order to make it easy for the customers, the NPCI has permitted UPI-led payments across all the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, using voice command technology by ToneTag.
Here’s How Pay-by-Car Works
- The users with the Pay-by-Car enabled cars can select the nearby BPCL petrol pump, using an infotainment system.
- Once selected, the feature then will ask the driver to insert the payment amount for the fuel.
- After entering the digits, the selected petrol pump will get a notification, requesting the employee at the station for fuel digitally.
- Once the filling is done, the advance payment mode will then deduct the particular amount from the account or digital wallet via FASTag. The payment also can be made using voice command.
- Most important, incase the payment is being made, and the user is unable to trace the fuel stations, the app has the provision to refund the invested amount within 48 hours.
Where else Pay-by-Car method can be used?
Apart from paying at the petrol pumps, the newly added payment method also can be used differently. Like paying for coffee, grocery stores, restaurants, and drivers through outlets among others.
The tech giants say the advanced payment method works through high-wave frequency communication and Opera Network for Digital Communication (ONDC), which allows contactless payments with ease.
