India Cricketer Shikhar Dhawan Granted Divorce from Estranged Wife on Grounds of Cruelty
Shikhar Dhawan married Aesha Mukherjee in 2012 and together they have a 10-year-old son named Zoravar.

Shikhar Dhawan has been granted divorce by a Delhi Court on grounds that the India cricketer was subject to cruelty by his estranged wife Aesha Dhawan.

Dhawan married Aesha in 2012 and have a 10-year-old son Zoravar.

Dhawan had accused his wife, who lives in Australia, of inflicting mental agony by forcing him into a long-distance marriage and by making him stay away from his son Zoravar for several years.

Both Aesha and Zoravar are Australian citizens.

Family Court Judge Harish Kumar accepted Dhawan’s accusations against his wife and in his order said Aesha wasn’t able to prove the allegations as false.

“He (Dhawan) for no fault of his own had been through immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years. Even though the wife denied the allegation, submitting that though she genuinely wanted to live in India with him, yet she did not choose to contest the claim. The respondent, by conducting herself in the manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage,” the court said.

Dhawan also alleged that Aesha ‘compelled’ him to buy and make her owner of three properties in Australia which she also failed to prove as false.

“The respondent was required to prove that properties were purchased out of her fund as well or her name was included out of love and affection. Thus, Dhawan’s allegation that she compelled him to make her owner to some extent in all three properties or that she pocketed sale proceeds thereof has got to be believed as true,” the court said.

Aesha has two daughters from her previous marriage and Dhawan also claimed that he was forced to pay child support for them as well besides his son Zoravar.

He alleged Aesha was already getting child support for her two daughters from her first husband.

The court further ordered Dhawan visitation rights to meet his son.

Aesha will have to bring Zoravar to India for visitation, overnight stay with Dhawan and his family, and during school holidays.
