Weather Updates: Overnight heavy rains lashed Mumbai and more showers are predicted in the city in the next 24 hours, a civic official said on Friday. The city has been getting heavy spells of rain since Thursday night. But there is no report of major waterlogging anywhere, except a few low-lying areas like Andheri subway, which is shut for traffic due to water accumulation, he said.
Incessant rains and cloudy skies brought the mercury levels down and turned the weather in the city pleasant. “Very heavy rains from overnight dark morning atmosphere is such that it feels like we are in July month,” wrote Darshan Mundada, a citizen, on Twitter.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall with possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours, he said. According to the official, the suburban services on both Central and Western railways are running normally and the public transport services of Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) have not been diverted anywhere due to waterlogging. “Train Alert! 8.35 am Raining on Main, Harbour line. At least nine people were killed in Lucknow after the boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed due to heavy rains, police said on Friday. One person was pulled out alive from the debris, they said. “Some labourers were living in huts outside an Army enclave in the Dilkusha area. Owing to heavy overnight rains, the boundary wall of the Army enclave collapsed,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Piyush Mordia said.
“We reached the spot around 3 am. Nine bodies were pulled out from the debris and one person was rescued alive,” he said.
Telangana is likely to have light to moderate rain in one or two places for the next four to five days, the IMD said on September 14. It also predicted that clear sky conditions are likely to prevail with light rains in Hyderabad and adjoining areas.
A low pressure area over Uttar Pradesh caused heavy rainfall across the state in the last 24 hours, with authorities warning that the situation might continue till Saturday. According to the orders of the District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar, schools affiliated to all Boards, up to class 12 will remain closed on Friday following the heavy downpour and water logging in many parts of the city.

• Mumbai faced massive traffic on Friday as rains lashed the city. The Western Express Highway, which connects the entire western suburban areas, was reported to be jammed with vehicles. Ares such as Andheri Subway, Aarey Road, Nashik Bhiwandi by-pass and Eastern Express Highway (EEH), faced slow traffic movement due to congestion, as per a Hindustan Times report.

• “Rains forced roof of kuccha house to collapse around 3am last night & 3 children died at spot. As per provisions, pucca house will be made for them, shelter & food will be given till house is made. Relief of Rs 4 lakh also to be provided per child,” SDM Ajit Jaiswal told news agency ANI.
• In a similar somber incident, three including two minors were killed while one was injured after roof of a house collapsed due to rain late last night in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao. Injured has been identified as the mother of three children aged 20 years, four years and six years all of whom died in incident.

• According to the orders of the District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar, schools affiliated to all Boards, up to class 12 will remain closed on Friday following the heavy downpour and water logging in many parts of Lucknow. Lucknow zone commissioner also ordered closure of non-essential government offices in the region.
• Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Jhansi, Orai, Lucknow, Kanpur and Bahraich have witnessed torrential rainfall in the past 24 hours. Heavy rainfall belt will extend further and cover Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Mainpuri, Hardoi, Sitapur, Lucknow, Kanpur and Prayagraj in the next two days, Met Department officials said.
• The IMD forecast light rain and cloudy sky in Delhi on Friday. It said the city’s maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 31 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively.
• The IMD had issued an orange alert for Maharashtra’s Palghar for September 14, 15, and 16. Raigad and Ratnagiri have also been put on alert till today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall, caused by a low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh, lashed many parts of Rajasthan for 24 hours from Wednesday noon.
• Rains in Delhi on Thursday also led to waterlogging in some parts of the city which led to commuters’ woes. Areas that witnessed rain on Thursday include ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Mehrauli, Badarpur, Jahangirpuri, Model Town, Burari, Karawal Nagar, Tughlakabad and Bawana, among others. Due to rains and waterlogging, traffic snarls were reported on several key stretches including Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Vikas Marg, Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, Rohtak Road among others.
• Heavy rain since Wednesday night in Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri areas of Maharashtra’s Nashik district has led to rise in water levels in local dams, an official said.
