What Happened Inside The IndiGo Flight Where Flyer Attacked Captain? Co-passenger Shares Her Version

Hours after a video of a passenger, who allegedly assaulted the pilot of the Delhi-Goa flight, went viral on social media, another passenger who was onboard the same flight sheds light on what had happened, revealing the reason behind the enraged passenger’s action. The other flyer, who spoke to CNN-News18, said that the extended delay of the IndiGo flight was the reason behind the shocking scene of physical violence inside the plane.

As per the fellow passenger, the man’s action came after the pilot blamed the passengers for the delay and said that because the passengers onboard were asking too many questions, they missed the line and will now have to wait for their next turn. The passenger further said that the pilot was at fault for blaming the passengers for the delay.

The incident came to light after a passenger – identified as Sahil Kataria – ran up to the flight’s co-captain, Anup Kumar and slapped him while he was making an announcement. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

IndiGo Files Complaint, Passenger to be Included in ‘No-Fly List’

Soon after the incident, IndiGo filed a complaint against the passenger on charges that he physically assaulted the flight’s co-pilot and formed an internal committee for appropriate action and inclusion of the passenger on the ‘no-fly list’. The airlines further handed over the passenger for his unruly behaviour to the local law enforcement agencies for further action.

The co-pilot, Anup Kumar, reportedly replaced the previous crew due to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) norms after several hours of delay.

“On January 14, 2024, during the announcement of a flight delay by the first officer of flight 6E2175, a passenger assaulted the first officer. As per protocol, the passenger was declared unruly and handed over to the local law enforcement agencies for further action. The incident is being referred to the independent internal committee for appropriate action and inclusion of the passenger on the ‘no-fly list’ as laid down in regulatory guidelines,” IndiGo said in a statement.

The passenger, however, was seen apologising for his behaviour while he was being taken under custody following the airline’s complaint.

What Happened Inside 6E2175?

In the video that is being widely shared on social media, a passenger in a yellow hoodie was seen running up to the aircraft’s pilot and hitting him in anger. The incident took place while the pilot was reportedly making a delay announcement.

According to a statement released by IndiGo, the flight operations were impacted due to the low visibility and dense fog conditions across North India.
