With No Withdrawal of Candidates Reported in Mizoram, 174 are in Fray, 223 Finalised in Chhattisgarh

The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for polling in Mizoram and first phase of Chhattisgarh ended on Monday. A total of 174 nominations have been finalised in Mizoram for 40 seats and 223 candidates in
Chhattisgarh for 20 seats in the first phase on November 7, according to Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs).
According to the office of Mizoram CEO, the 174 candidates include 16 females and 27 independent candidates. “No withdrawal of candidates has been reported,” it said.
There are at least 40 candidates each from Congress, Mizo National Front and Zoram People’s Movement, while 23 are from BJP and four from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). All four AAP candidates are contesting from Aizawl district.
With 55 candidates in total, Aizawl district has the highest number of candidates in fray, followed by Lunglei with 27 candidates. Lowest number of candidates are contesting in Khawzawl (four) and Hnahthial (three).
The term of the 40-seat Mizoram assembly is ending on December 17. The state has 8.51 lakh voters with a gender ratio of 1,060.
The ECI will also allow home voting for more than 9,000 voters who are above 80 years and more than 3,000 persons with disabilities (PwD) voters. This time, they will be given an option to vote from the comfort of their homes.
Chhattisgarh
Out of the total 294 candidates, who filed nominations for the first phase, only 253 were found valid after scrutiny, and 30 candidates withdrew their nomination. There are 223 in the fray, the state CEO said.
The term of Bhupesh Baghel’s government in the 90-member Chhattisgarh assembly is ending on January 3. The elections will be held in two phases in the state.
The state has 1.97 crore voters and the roll gender ratio is 1,003.
Home voting facility is being provided for 1.47 lakh PwDs, 2.02 lakh voters who are above the age of 80 years and 2,948 who are above the age of 100 years.
Counting of votes will be done on December 3 along with all the five states going to polls.
