Kejriwal has been taking on Dikshit in the recent past over inflated electricity bills in Delhi and has also accused her government of corruption. Now he has decided to contest against her in the Delhi Assembly elections. If he can defeat the Delhi CM in an election, it may be the biggest coup in India's electoral history. But how realistic are his chances of emerging as the winner? CNN-IBN's national affairs editor Bhupendra Chaubey joined IBNLive readers in an interaction on the matter.
Q. Do you think Arvind's credibility will not get convert into votes? Even if not, points he raise will still be valid in political circles? Asked by: Praveen Acharya
A. Hi Praveen, I do think that Arvind has a lot of credibility which can be translated into votes. Depends on to what degree. His emergence on the political scenario for sure will change things.
Q. So long as Arvind fought for the people's cause (which was a fight against the system), media chose to ignore him, And now that he has decided to fight against the Delhi CM, you think its news? Will media think beyond sensationalism? Asked by: Shalini Malviya
A. I actually believe that any politics which is media driven is short lived. Ultimately politics is all about whether you can get the person standing last in the cue in your favour.
Q. We will come to know the social and political awareness of the people in Delhi. If they really want to change something this is the time. Don't you think so? Asked by: Jayahari
A. I agree Jaya, I do believe that if all the energy that we witnessed during last two years was real, then Arvind and co should do well.
Q. Where are you Chaubey ji? Can election be fought this way and won? Asked by: Soumya
A. Kanshiram and Mayawati too lost the first few elections they contested. But look at where they are today. Politics is also about the staying power of an individual. So let's see.
Q. First will you rate AAP and Loksatta as as good parties, fighting elections for right causes in an ethical manner under the leadership of honest people? If yes, then what does our media has for such parties? Shouldn't they be given more coverage? Asked by: Vikas Rawat
A. Media's job is to report. If AAP hasn't been given coverage, then I cant think of any subject which would have been given coverage. AAP, Loksatta type of groups are examples of the vibrancy of our democracy.
Q. Still being a BJP fan, My gut feeling is that Congress will win Delhi .. Poor BJP leadership and cadreless AAP can't replace Sheila and Arvind is bound to loose. What's your thought? Asked by: Manoj
A. Congress actually is a very good election machine. When the elections come, congress somehow manages to get its act together. I think Arvind will give a good fight.
Q. Will BJP support AK by without putting any candidate against Sheila Dikshit? Asked by: Raman Bhasin
A. Interesting question It will be good to see how the BJP plays this one. Think they will put up a candidate, but ensure that the vote doesn't get divided
Q. Do you think Arvind can challenge the money power of Congress? Asked by: Sarin
A. Its Arvind's vision of a new polity vs what the Congress has mastered in all these years.
Q. AK can only be nightwatchman do you agree? Asked by: [email protected]
A. In politics, you never say, never again. Look at what Jagmohan Dalmiya has achieved. Who would have ever thought that he will make a re-entry in cricket. So I wouldn't be writing off AK so soon.
Q. Don't you think Kejriwal has played into Congress hands by making this move. He is personally targeting Sheila Dikshit who has a much better reputation than Congress today. They are making it personal and Dikshit is not so unpopular that Delhi wallahs will desert her to vote for Arvind. I think this move will boomerang on AAP. What is your take? Asked by: Udaikant
A. But the other way to look at your view Udai is that if AK wouldn't have done this, people would have said, Oh he is looking for a safe seat. He has shown his heart, lets see how his campaign develops.
Q. From national level has come down to UT level. Why this fall? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. At national level, he was a crusader. At a political level, you have to make a start somewhere. So why not UT.
Q. The strategy is to be in the limelight and if not elected blame the people in power having played an unfair game. Why is the choice to fight the incumbent CM? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. Choice to fight the incumbent CM is also part of a strategy. If you want to bring in big change, go for the big gun. That's what he has done.
Q. Does AAP aim to Capture power or just continue with Dramas? Asked by: sundar1950in
A. I think they want to make a beginning. As I said earlier, politics isn't a one day match.
