Chhattisgarh: Modi to address 4 rallies ahead of 2nd phase of voting
Modi's visit comes after state party unit workers demanded that his campaign should be extended to the states which are up for polls.

Raipur: Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Prime Minister candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is set to address four rallies in Chhattisgarh on Friday ahead of the second phase of polling in the state on Monday. Modi's visit comes after state party unit workers demanded that the BJP leader extended his campaign to the states which are up for elections.

The first phase of Chhattisgarh Assembly polls in 18 constituencies ended amidst a low voter turnout. There was no voter turnout in 42 polling booths in Sukma where polling booths are located inside security camps.

The 18 Assembly constituencies which were up for polls on November 11 were from one of most militarised zones in the World. Due to a fear of Maoist attacks, more than 1,43,000 security personnel had been deployed in the 8 districts, which have a total of 18 Assembly seats for the elections.

Modi had addressed 4 rallies in Chhattisgarh on Thursday as well. In a direct attack on the Gandhi family, Modi on Thursday asked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi whether central funds for Chhattisgarh came from his "Mama's (maternal uncle) house" and also said UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi should let the "shehzada" take over Congress.

Citing multi-crore 2G and coal scams, the BJP prime ministerial candidate also said the Congress has done "PhD in corruption" and that it has become a burden on the country and sought its ouster.

Addressing a series of public meetings in poll-bound Chhattisgarh including at Kawardha, home town of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, Modi slammed the Congress for opposing opinion polls, saying fear of losing elections was the reason behind its "nonsensical" demand and "desperate" tactics.

Alleging that Congress's claims of giving massive funds to Chhattisgarh under various schemes is an insult to its people, Modi said, "Sonia madam and shehzada (Rahul) had come here. Said so much foodgrains and funds were given. Are you people standing here with a begging bowl. What kind of language is the Congress speaking."

Asserting that the people have a right to central funds, he targeted the Congress vice president and made a veiled dig at Sonia's Italian origin. "I want to ask shehzada that you keep on saying that we gave so much money, I want to know if he got the money from his mama's house. Did you give the money by taking it from your mama's house?. This is the people's money," said Modi at his first rally at Bemetra, 90 km from Raipur.

Mounting a shrill attack on the Congress President, Modi said, "Madam, you are ill. Let the shehzada (prince) take over.

Modi also took on Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Aggarwal who derided Modi over his humble background. Modi in its attack said that such comments showed the mentality of the SP leader. "The question is not about Modi. It is about how people born in rich families, people who have spent their life like royalties are mocking the poor and that is why they are using such language," Modi said at a rally in Durg in Chhattisgarh.

In a democracy, he said, somebody polishing boots by road could rise to be someone who could write the destiny of India if he has the ability.
