Congress says it could move court if denied LOP post, BJP mocks it
Kamal Nath had said that the Congress must go to court if the Speaker's decision over the post of Leader of Opposition went against it.

New Delhi: There is no end to the confusion over who will get the post of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Congress leaders are holding a strategy meeting to finalise its stand on the Leader of Opposition. They only have 44 seats and need 11 more to hold the post.

With no clarity on whether their demand will be agreed upon by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, senior leader Kamal Nath has said the party 'must go to court if the Speaker's decision, which could be "flavoured" by BJP and Narendra Modi, went against it.

Insisting that there is no rule, which says that a party cannot get LoP status unless it has 10 per cent of the total strength of the 543-member Lok Sabha, the former Parliamentary Affairs Minister said in Delhi that while a Speaker is generally neutral when it comes to dealing with Parliamentary processes, it may be different in a contentious situation.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leaders took no time to take jibes at the Congress leader and mocked the Congress for such a remark. "This is Height of defeat depression. The "grand old party" has threatened to disrupt Parliament if they are not given the post of Leader of Opposition," BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also said that was unfortunate that such a comment has been made by senior leader like Kamal Nath. "Speaker will go by rulebook and take a decision. The Speaker is above all parties," Naidu assured.
