Bhopal: Dismissing media reports, All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday said that he had no discussions with Congress President Sonia Gandhi over the possibility of his contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"All media reports suggesting that Sonia had a talk with me about contesting the elections are a figment of imagination," Singh said from Delhi.
The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said that he had two meetings with the United Progressive Alliance Chairperson in Delhi before his visit to Pune on March 18 but denied any talks with her on contesting the elections on both occasions.
The senior Congress leader decided against contesting elections in accordance with an announcement made by him before the December 2003 Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh that he would not contest polls if his party lost them.
Media reports in Lucknow on Thursday had claimed that Sonia had called and tried to persuade Singh to contest the elections.
There has been continuous speculation that Singh may be fielded as a Congress nominee from Rajgarh or Indore Lok Sabha constituencies.
