Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has written to the Centre asking for an upgrade to Chief Minister and BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's security cover during his election rallies outside the state. The National Security Guards (NSG) has upgraded his security at his residence after he was named the BJP poll campaign chief in June.
"We have written to the Centre to upgrade Modi's security outside the state due to threats during election rallies," Additional Chief Secretary (Home) SK Nanda said.
"The security cover provided to Modi during his tours outside the state is not at par with what he gets when he is in Gujarat," Nanda said.
Last week, Modi was anointed as BJP's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Modi, whose travels outside Gujarat have increased significantly, has been on the hit list of all major terror groups active. Currently he enjoys a 'Z++' security cover by the NSG.
