The main contest in Kerala is between the ruling Left and the Congress.
Thiruvananthapuram: 59 per cent of over 20 million electorate in Kerala turned up to vote on Thursday, say records. It is far lower than the previous elections (2004)'s 71.45 per cent turnout.
Kerala chief minister V S Achutanand cast his vote from Alapuzha . He said people had come out to vote for the Left in large numbers.
"There is a lot of enthusiasm in the air and people are voting for Left party candidates," Achutanandhan said.
Kerala has 20 Lok Sabha constituencies. The main contest is between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).
