New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj on Friday said that the government has failed if it had prior intelligence about terror attacks and did not take any action ahead of Thursday's twin blasts in Hyderabad. Sushma said that terrorists have no religion and that they only follow the code of terrorism.
Sushma asked all political parties to come together to fight the menace of terrorism. "The nation needs to be united, the political parties need to get united. The moment that happens, we will be capable in fighting terror," said the senior BJP leader.
She also slammed Shinde's statement on the blasts and called them a 'routine'. "Even if the Centre had not given any information, post-Afzal Guru's hanging, there should have been an alert in Hyderabad anyway," she added.
Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in his address to the Lok Sabha said that the preliminary inquiry into the Hyderabad blasts revealed that IED explosives had been used and that two cases had been filed. "The NIA will conduct the probe in conjunction with the Andhra Pradesh police," he added. Giving details of the casualties, Shinde said that the death toll had risen to 16. The number of injured now stands at 117, four of whom are critical.
The Opposition flayed the Centre for it labelled intelligence failure to prevent the Hyderabad blasts. "We can be united only when our thoughts in fighting terror are similar. The Home Minister himself is saying that he gave the information. But, if there was information, the blame doubles. If there was information, what was the Centre, the state doing?" asked Sushma. "The nation needs to be united, the political parties need to get united. The moment that happens, we will be capable in fighting terror," she added.
