New Delhi: The Central Government is likely to face the heat of Opposition over Minority Affairs Minister AR Antulay's remarks on the death of former Mumbai Anti-Terrorism Squad chief Hemant Karkare during the Mumbai terror attacks.
Antulay had earlier submitted his 'resignation' to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but no decision has been taken on it even as the Opposition has been demanding that the Minister be sacked.
The government though is planning to issue a statement on the issue.
On the other hand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Syed Shah Nawaz Hussain has said that the issue will dominate Parliament proceedings on Monday if the government's statement is not acceptable to people of the country.
BJP has also demanded that Antulay be arrested and a case of treason be registered against him. BJP's chief whip SS Ahluwalia said that BJP will seek suspension of Question Hour in Lok Sabha seeking clarification from the Government on this issue.
The controversy started when Antulay in a debate in the Lok Sabha said that Karkare's killing may be linked to the Malegaon bomb blast investigations.
Karkare was investigating the September 29 Malegaon bomb blast in which some Hindu groups leaders including a serving Army officer have been arrested.
Antulay has raised doubts over why Karkare was sent to Cama Hospital on November 26 when Pakistan-trained terrorists attacked Mumbai.
