Party will reply to Somnath's charges: Karat
CPI-M General Secretary refuses to get into argument with ex-Speaker.

Kolkata: CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday refused to comment on former party leader Somnath Chatterjee’s criticism of his leadership and said his party would “react”.

"I won't respond. My party will react (to Chatterjee's charge)," Karat told reporters in Kolkata after the two-day state committee meeting of the CPI-M.

"He (Chatterjee) is not in the party, so I don't need to react," said Karat when he was asked about the former Lok Sabha speaker's allegation he had damaged the Left movement.

Chatterjee, who was expelled from the CPI-M in July 2008 after he refused to resign as Lok Sabha Speaker, has said in his memoirs that the "disastrous" policies and "misguided" actions of the "current" leadership had caused the party's defeat in the 2009 general elections.

Chatterjee has been critical of Karat in his book Keeping the Faith: Memoirs of a Parliamentarian which will be released later this month.

What's your reaction?
