Bhubaneswar: Retd Major General RK Sahoo and former Inspector General of Orissa Police Surendra Nath Swain were among a few others, who on Friday formally joined the Congress.
Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief KP Singdeo, who welcomed them at a news conference, said many more from various walks of life would join the party soon.
Three-time MLA from Pallahada Bhibhudendra Pratap Das, also an active environmentalist in the state, rejoined the Congress along with his followers.
Das had left the Congress in the past following differences with the state leaders.
Singdeo described Das' joining as homecoming and clarified that certain misunderstanding between the former MLA and the party had been sorted out.
Former Biju Yuva Janata Dal vice-president Ajya Mishra and former Janata Dal secretary Balavadra Das also joined the party along with a large number of followers.
