Trinamool's pull-out vindicates our strike call: Left
Calling shutdowns do not solve any problems. Problems are solved by taking decisions, said Mamata Banerjee.

Kolkata: In the wake of Trinamool Congress withdrawing support from the UPA government, the Left Front on Tuesday said its stand to call a strike in protest against hike in diesel prices and FDI in retail had been vindicated.

"After this decision, we believe that the Trinamool Congress will stop opposing the 12-hour general strike called by the Left Front against these anti-people policies of the centre," Front chairman Biman Bose said.

The Left Front on Sunday had announced its decision to observe a 12 hour general strike in West Bengal September 20 to protest against hike in diesel price and allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.

However while announcing her party's decision to withdraw support from the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was opposed to the strike.

"There is no reason for the CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) to rejoice at this decision. Calling shutdowns do not solve any problems. Problems are solved by taking decisions," said Banerjee.

Stating that a shutdown causes the economy to suffer a loss of Rs.2,000 crores, Banerjee urged the Left to withdraw the strike and asked people not to be a part of the shutdown.
