In a statement, TV Today said its investigation was based on 'hard and incontrovertible facts emerging out of' state and central governments documents.

New Delhi: TV Today, that carried out a sting operation on Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's trust for the differently-abled, the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, revealing alleged misuse of funds, has issued a statement saying that it stands by its story. Salman Khurshid on Sunday had called for TV Today Chairman and MD Aroon Purie to resign.

The statement by TV Today said, "This is not a matter of debate and opinion. Nor is it a personal attack as it is being construed to be by Mr Khurshid but is in larger public interest... This is an investigation based on hard and incontrovertible facts emerging out of documents of the state and central governments."

Khurshid's wife Louise, who is a project director at the Trust, filed a defamation suit against TV Today following the sting operation. Meanwhile, Khurshid will be filing lawsuits against Kejriwal and TV Today.

The Centre and the Government, on the other hand, continue to stand by Khurshid. I&B Minister Ambika Soni, MoS in the PMO Narayanasamy and Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh defended him on Sunday. The party said that there was no question of Khurshid stepping down as it feels his resignation would only strengthen Kejriwal's campaign and set a precedent in case other Congress ministers are named by Kejriwal in future. The Congress strategy now is to speak to allies like NCP chief Sharad Pawar to get them on board.
