Mathura: In the wake of the alleged mass migration of Hindus from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, the Shamli District Magistrate, Sujeet Kumar, conducted an inquiry and has reported that the claims made by a BJP MP are not true.
"I have sent a preliminary report to Chief Minister's office. So far names of 100 people have been cross checked and we have found that 60 of them have left Shamli around 15-20 years back," he said even as BJP leaders claimed that Hindu families were being forced to migrate from Kairana following threat by Muslim gangs.
"Around 15 families were found to be staying in Shamli itself at different locations. Rest 15-20 left few years ago for better prospects in other cities. The door-to-door survey is still going. Preliminary inquiry revealed that people left the area in search of employment and other personal issues," he added.
The alleged migration has become a hot political and emotive issue after BJP MP Hukum Singh recently produced a list of 346 families claiming that all of them left Kairana out of fear.
Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav slammed the BJP for making false claims that Hindus are fleeing from Kairana out of fear. "BJP has given a wrong list to malign the image of the UP government. They are doing this because of elections," he said.
"They (BJP) don't have any work. They are giving just slogans of digital India. Our government is bound to serve the poor people," he added.
