Chennai: Senior BJP leader and Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu has blamed the previous Congress for the directive promoting Hindi across India. Speaking to the media he said "I don't know why this controversy is happening. We have not done anything. This circular was issued on March 10. We weren't in power. Congress was in power."
He said "why should people object? Other states can use English. I don't understand why there is this controversy".
He said that the circular was issued by the ministry of home affairs with regard to social media.
He asked "can you impose another language on people of Tamil Nadu. Mother tongue should be given due importance. If children want to learn Hindi it will be useful at national level. In Tamil Nadu, people should send twitter in Tamil. If people want to use English they can use. Nobody is going to be forced. We are clear about it. Narendra modi is clear about it. We are not against English. We are against English mind. We can use language. In Hindi speaking states, it is Hindi".
