New Delhi: Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) parlioamentarian A.P. Abdullakuty, who was suspended from the party for a year for praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's development initiatives, still wants to know why action was taken against him.

"I have not made any mistake. I am very sad as the party was not convinced of the explanation given by me. The party could not realise my position completely," Abdullakutty told IANS over the phone from Kerala.

The decision to suspend the two-time Lok Sabha member, who represents the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, was taken on Saturday by the CPI-M's Mayyil Area Committee in Kannur district.

Abdullakutty was given a showcause notice before being suspended.

In his reply to the notice, the MP said he only lauded the initiatives of Modi, who played a proactive role in attracting investments and boosting the development of Gujarat, but did not approve of the Bharatiya Janata Party leader's communal stand.

"I have big dreams about my future and the future of the nation," Abdullakutty replied to a query about his future plan.

When asked whether he would obey the party's direction while in the suspension, the controversial MP, who earlier invited the party's ire for speaking against shutdowns, said sarcastically: "I will walk well, I will sit well and I will work well."

"I don't know whether I can remain as a party worker when I am under suspension. Please don't put me in more trouble," said Abdullakutty, who once shocked the CPI-M by performing Haj without seeking the party's permission.
