New Delhi: The first phone by BlackBerry which runs rival Google’s Android software is up for sale in the US starting November 6.
The BlackBerry Priv, which the company says will decide its future in the mobile market, first went for preorders on October 23 and according to a Reuters report, US carrier AT&T is all geared up to offer the Android-powered BlackBerry device in its retail stores in the country and online from Friday.
Touted as the first US carrier offering the device, AT&T will sell the device at $249 with a 2-year contract.
BlackBerry Priv BlackBerry's move to launch an Android phone marks a shift away from its own BlackBerry 10 platform, which failed to regain market share ceded to Apple Inc's iPhone and a slew of Android-powered devices.
BlackBerry Priv features an 18 megapixel rear camera with dual-flash and includes a 3410 mAh battery that is claimed to give up to 22.5 hours of backup.
The Android Lollipop-powered phone comes with 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 2 TB via micro SD card.
BlackBerry also closed on Monday the acquisition of rival mobile software provider Good Technology Corp, which it bought for $425 million to boost its ability to help corporate clients manage smartphones running on different operating systems.
BlackBerry's shares were up 1.8 per cent at C$9.70 in afternoon trading in Toronto.
