New Delhi: Live-streaming app Meerkat has announced its plans to launch the app for Android. The Android app will initially be available to select users in beta phase before the company rolls it out to all.
"We're opening up Meerkat for Android to external beta testers! Sign up," announced the company in a tweet. The company has also given a link to a Google Docs form in the tweet that requires you to fill some basic details if you want to join the Meerkat Android Beta program.
With the help of the beta program, the company intends to make Meerkat better for Androis users. There is no information as to how many testers the company will select for the beta program.
Meerkat, which integrates with Twitter, allows users of the messaging platform to launch live video streams with a single touch of an on-screen button.
It became a virtual overnight sensation since its low-key arrival on Apple's online App Store in February, but its popularity has been slowing down since Twitter introduced its immediate rival Periscope last month.
The company's move to bring the app to Android before Periscope might help it gain an edge over Periscope.
