Sony is in no Hurry to Ditch The 3.5mm Audio Jack; More Xperias With 4K Display Coming
Sony thinks these changes are drastic and shouldn't be made in a hurry.

With Apple ditching the traditional analog 3.5mm headphone jack in its latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones, it goes without saying that the Android bandwagon will soon follow. However, Sony seems to be in no hurry to do so.

While acknowledging that 3.5mm audio jacks are going to be a thing of the past going ahead, Sony said that it will make the shift to USB Type-C audio gradually.

In an exclusive interaction with News18.com, Sony India MD Kenichiro Hibi San said, "We have plans to integrate it (USB Type-C audio) slowly but not all of a sudden."

"While some companies are making the change, we think these changes are drastic and shouldn't be made in a hurry. There are consumers and you have to think about them," he said at the launch of the new flagship Sony Xperia XZ smartphone.

The Sony Xperia XZ flaunts the new Triple Sensor technology for superior imaging and pitches it as the ultimate camera phone. However, on the display front, Sony has kept things simple. While being the first company to mount a 4K display in a smartphone, Sony is just offering a Full HD 1080p panel in the Xperia XZ, priced at Rs 51,990.

This might fuel speculations that smartphones with 4K display is not happening any more for Sony. However, that is not the case.

Answering technology journalists gathered at the Xperia XZ smartphone launch, Xperia business head of Sony India Vijay Jaswal said, "We might come with 4K displays again on phones."

Sony decided to opt for a Full HD display in the new Xperia XZ to manage its price and battery life.Disclaimer: The author was invited to Udaipur for the launch of Sony Xperia XZ smartphone by Sony India.
