The Washington Post unveiled its new catchphrase, 'Democracy Dies in Darkness' this week on its website and social media platforms, in the times when US president refers to the media as the 'enemy of the Americans'.
This is apparently the Posts' attempt to remind its readers what journalism stands for. Twitter did not take long to notice the striking new change in the motto and some described the change as anti-Donald Trump while others deemed it 'pretty dark'.
The slogan was first introduced to Washington Post’s Snapchat channel last week and now appears below the masthead on the digital edition.
The Twitteratti went berserk in no time and the Post was mostly trolled with a few cries of hypocracy.

"Democracy Dies in Darkness" - but it takes two to tango. Never forget @washingtonpost's role in making "President Trump". pic.twitter.com/8JesDarxBB — Amir (@amiraminiMD) February 22, 2017
