Deepika Singh rose to prominence for her role as Sandhya in the hit television series Diya Aur Baati Hum. Her character’s journey to become an IAS officer in the show remains one of the most inspiring narratives in television history. Deepika is currently preparing to return to the small screen in a new programme titled Mangal Lakshmi. Reportedly, she is slated to play a grounded woman in the new show. In a recent interview, she opened up about her new role as well as the reasons for being away from television for so long.
In a conversation with ETimes, Dipika Singh revealed that she will be playing the character of Mangal, who is a homemaker and sacrifices a lot for her loved ones. As per the plot of the show, her relationship with her husband is strained, and the latter does not respect her; therefore, she strives to find her sister an ideal match. She would try to support her sister in getting married to a person who respects her. She said, “This is the theme of the show that she is trying to get her respect”
Speaking about being away from TV for a long time, Deepika said, “I wanted to be associated with acting and it’s not like I was completely away. I did Kawach, Titu Ambani, my film but at that point I wasn’t ready for a long term commitment. I had clearly mentioned it and maintained that. I did small roles like the film was just a one month schedule.” But the actress was not ready for long time commitments as she had taken up training for classical dance and wanted to prioritise her exams. Now that she has got her certificate in dancing, she practices on her own for an hour everyday and then goes for shoots. She added, “It’s not like I’m shooting for 30 days a month. I’m getting a breather. It’s not like I’m shooting for 30 days a month. I’m getting time to dance. I genuinely wanted to try for web-series and films but it couldn’t happen at that time.” Mangal Lakshmi will premiere on Colours TV and will focus on the journey of the two sisters.
Meanwhile, Deepika married Rohit Raj Goyal, the director of Diya Aur Baati Hum, in a private wedding ceremony in 2014. On May 20, 2017, the couple embraced parenthood by welcoming a baby boy.
