Although many people associate pet grooming with brushes and bows, it is actually an essential part of maintaining your pet’s general health and well-being. Ensuring regular grooming for your pet enables you to identify any underlying illnesses or ailments early on. This means that any treatment can be administered more quickly and effectively, reducing the likelihood of long-term effects for your pet. A dog groomer was recently horrified by the condition of the pet they were grooming, so much so that they “violently sobbed.”
The two-year-old dog had never been groomed professionally before. The dog, which had thick fur and was unrecognisable after being groomed, was shared by the groomer on Reddit. They stated, “I have never sobbed so violently while doing a dog before.”
“Tick infested, ear infections, hematomas but luckily not a single cut and most of the ticks were dead. Pelted matting and still was the sweetest boy.”
Pictures display large areas of the dog’s curly fur matted, and one even appears to show the thick layer almost being removed. Another picture displays a large amount of little squirmy insects gathered in a dish, and the groomers are holding up the enormous section of the dog’s coat from which the insects were released.
The dog also seems about half its former size in the last picture, with much shorter and neater fur and a slight tail wag.

The professional groomer notes that the dog was moving very slowly and in a confined manner and that his eyes were quite dull. But as soon as the rug was off, he behaved like a completely different dog.
They went on to say that shaving the puppy is the only “humane way” to remove the matted hair and that leaving any matting lingering might be fatal.
Naturally, many people expressed concern for the dog. The groomer responded by saying that the owners had owned golden retrievers all of their lives and had just recently acquired him as a four-month-old puppy.
They continued by saying that while grooming him at home hadn’t worked out for them, taking him to the groomer and “being judged and having him taken away” was their “biggest fear.”
However, they “risked it and are super grateful,” with the groomer noting that he’ll start on a schedule after today.
The professional assured that the owners ‘love’ their dog and that it was only a matter of poor breeding practices and miseducation.
Many asked why they hadn’t been reported, and the groomer said that if the dog was already being cared for, it goes against company policy to submit a “neglect case.” If they bring him in again in this condition, or if they don’t see him for more than 2/3 months, they can make an inquiry.
