Indian Influencer Shares 'Struggles' of Returning Amazon Package in Canada, Gets Schooled for 'Slave Mindset'
Indian-origin woman mocks Amazon Canada for asking customers to handle the returns by themselves, gets trolled for insensitive take.

An Indian-origin woman recently shared her experience navigating Amazon’s return policy in Canada. Posting on Instagram, Dr. Selena Khosla recounted the differences between returning items in India and Canada. In Canada, customers must handle returns themselves, unlike in India where a delivery person picks up the return. Dr. Khosla detailed the process: packing the item, printing the return label, and taking it to the post office.

Frustrated by the cumbersome process, Dr. Khosla expressed her surprise, saying, “One of the cultural shocks I encountered after moving to Canada is that, unlike in India, where Amazon offers a 30-day return policy and the delivery person picks up the item, here you have to pack it yourself, print the label, and find a printer – because no service delivers printouts to your home like Swiggy does in India!”

Holding her return package, she continued, “You then have to go to Canada Post. Even in India, people who work in the post office rarely visit it, but here, everyone has to go there for Amazon returns. I now have immense appreciation for the systems in India and the Amazon delivery people who make returns so convenient.”

In her video, Dr. Khosla also shared her experience of searching for the post office in the summer heat, following Google Maps to its new location. When she finally dropped off her package, she told the postal worker, “In India, someone comes to take it from us,” to which the worker reacted with disbelief. “Even if it’s just a bottle of shampoo, they come and collect it. We’re privileged in that way,” she said, expressing her love for India.

However, her post, titled “Amazon India vs Canada. Huge respect for every delivery associate in India who makes this possible, even in extreme temperatures,” didn’t sit well with everyone as some accused her of promoting worker exploitation in India.

“She is like, Why can’t we exploit workers here in the West like we do in India?” one user commented. Another added, “My cousin is a delivery worker in Bihar and gets 16 rupees for a delivery, in this scorching heat of 45°C. The same companies don’t have the guts to exploit the working class in Canada. Watch this and read comments to see how the rich of this country are insensitive monsters.”

A third summed it up, “A developed country will simply not have cheap labour as most people have access to good education, enough jobs to go around. Free e-commerce/food delivery/returns, household help are viable in India simply because there are many poor people who’ll work at that price point.”
