In a world of cutting-edge technology with cameras and lenses costing lakhs, a simple picture of a Himachali boy holding his goat on a lush green mountain has won an award. The photo, titled “The Gaddi Boy and His Goat”, was clicked using an iPhone SE. The picture has secured 3rd place in the Best Portrait category under the Best of the iPhone Photography Awards 2024. It was taken by Indian photographer Manush Kalwari in Burwa, Himachal Pradesh. The frame highlights the strong bond between a Gaddi boy and his companion goat. The beautiful landscape added an extra dimension to the frame.
Reportedly, Kalwani’s simple yet heartwarming photograph stood out among 14,000 entries from over 140 countries competing in the 17th Annual iPhone Photography Awards (Ippawards) under the portrait category.
The competition featured 15 total categories. Talking about the portrait category, first place was secured by Artem Koleganov from Germany with “Grace,” captured on an iPhone X in St. Petersburg, Russia. Enhua Ni of China earned the 2nd place for “Pilgrim,” taken with an iPhone X in Varanasi, India.
The annual iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) have recognised some of the best images shot by people across the world from their iPhones for the last 17 years. Kalwani’s victory is a proud moment for the country and also a message for budding photographers that more important than advanced gadgets is a perspective that moves the heart.
