Man Proposes On Tram In Viral Video, Crowd’s Reaction Is Colder Than A Dutch Winter

In its most basic definition, a public proposal is when you ask someone to marry you in front of other people. People opt to pop the question in front of others because, aside from the setting and the specifics, those in attendance are adept at exaggerating the situation. For plenty of other cultures worldwide, such is not the case, though. So when a man’s proposal to his partner in the Netherlands failed to wow many spectators, a content creator was perplexed.

When a public proposal occurs, onlookers typically applaud the couple. However, things can be very different in the Netherlands. There was no response from other riders when a man proposed to his girlfriend while riding a tram.

Content creator Onyisi shared the proposal video on Instagram. “I wish he could have proposed in a more picturesque setting, but what truly matters is the genuine love we share,” he wrote as he uploaded the video.

Nevertheless, Onyisi became agitated and questioned, “You don’t like love?” after observing the other tram riders’ nonchalant response.

Additionally, he claimed that if this were America, everyone would exclaim, “Oh my God, congrats!”

He continued by saying that although someone had proposed to his partner, everyone was engrossed in using their phones. He also talked about how people are acting as if this isn’t a meaningful occasion, even though it is.

In a jest, he mentioned all this was very “stroopwafel” for him, before urging others to “show excitement and make his day.”

The video has over 2 million views on the social media platform with plenty of users thanking Onyisi for cheering for the couple despite being the only one to do so.

While many people questioned the man’s decision to pop the question in a tram, a user commented, “Maybe they met in the tram, then it is the perfect place to propose but people have to cheer no matter the place.”

Another user said, “Welcome to this cold country… The weather and the people.”

A third user went on to say, “Wow! The lack of emotion, empathy, and life from the passengers is so freaking lame. It makes me embarrassed for them; cringe!”
