In a wedding ceremony in Bihar, a woman was seen dancing with other men to inappropriate songs. Her husband, a retired army soldier currently working with Dial 112, stopped her from dancing and halted the DJ. Upset about his act, the wife complained to her brother and father, who then locked the husband in a room and beat him severely.
The incident occurred in the Mojahidpur police station area. A family from Mirzapur and Sabour had come to Mojahidpur for a relative’s wedding. During the event, the wife of retired soldier Roshan Ranjan was dancing with a stranger, prompting Roshan to stop the dance and DJ. Angered, the wife reported it to her father and brother, who assaulted Roshan upon reaching home.
Roshan Ranjan, who works with Dial 112, explained over the phone, “My wife was dancing with another man to vulgar songs. I questioned her about it, leading to an argument. When I got home, my father-in-law and brother-in-law locked me in a room and beat me badly. When my son tried to help, he was also beaten. They snatched my phone when I tried to call 112, and even let the air out of my car tyres to prevent me from going to the police station. Despite being injured, I managed to reach the Mojahidpur police station, where I was sent to the hospital via Dial 112.”
City SP Mr Raj stated that no written complaint had been filed yet, but action would be taken upon receiving one.
In a similar incident, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor allegedly tortured her husband by tying him up and burning his body parts with a cigarette. A complaint was lodged by the husband, following which the accused woman was arrested by Seohara district police on May 5.
The woman, identified as Mehar Jahan drugged her husband and tied his hands and legs before burning his body parts with a cigarette, the victim Manan Zaidi alleged.
