A shocking video has emerged from Shimla that shows two groups fighting in the middle of a road. The undated video shows a car which appears to be a Mahindra Thar standing in front of a Himachal Parivahan bus. It appears that both vehicles are at a standstill about who gets to move back and allow the other vehicle to pass by. Whether the passengers of the car are fighting with another tourist group or with the staff of the government bus is unclear. Some onlookers are seen trying to intervene and stop the fight.
At some point during the brawl, one person manages to throw another across the road fence and into the bushes. Instead of checking up on the person who was tossed in the bushes, the man just marches towards his car. The video ends with the Thar passengers getting into the car.
An X user shared this video and wrote, “Tourist groups clash near Shimla railway station overpass issue, escalating into physical fight & a person being thrown down a cliff!” The video has gathered 6.6 lakh views since it was shared on June 23.

In the comments, many people have blamed tourists for not being able to drive properly in the hills. Someone noted, “I don’t think any tourist should be allowed in the mountains without a mandatory half an hour class on how to behave on the roads, respecting the hills and the locals. Plus there should be tickets to control the number of footfalls. And of course, no bribes.”

A person asserted, “I have visited Uttarakhand and Himachal several times, local drivers have good understanding i.e. they do not overtake etc. But the tourists with their own cars specially from HR, PB , DL create chaos, they drive fast, overtake at the narrow passes, full of horn etc.”

A user remarked, “This is the frustration level of people these days. You can’t even talk to anyone outside these days. With this population one day it will be impossible for governments to handle these situations. We need a full stop and self introspection at a higher level.”

Someone else observed, “Notice how the individual wearing blue shorts and the person in the white t-shirt are both intoxicated. Observe how the person in blue shorts is struggling to stand upright with the assistance of another person, and then proceeds to get behind the wheel and drive off.”

It will be interesting to see if law enforcement agencies take cognisance of the issue and take action against those involved. The video has nonetheless raised the much-needed demand to ensure road safety of tourists and locals during vacation season.
