Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Parveen Kaswan, a keen wildlife enthusiast, is known for sharing interesting facts about environment conservation. From dropping pictures to sharing intriguing facts about the forest, Kaswan’s social media handles are a treasure trove. Recently, his dedicated team initiated a cleanliness drive through a forest road, collecting two truckloads of plastic. Kaswan, in his post on X (formerly Twitter), wrote, “Every second plastic piece thrown on the forest road is either a chips or Kurkure packet.” The team covered a distance of 7 kilometres.

The forest surrounding, which should be covered with organic matter, is instead littered with the remnants of human beings. Kaswan through his post highlighted that animals, driven by instinct and hunger, often mistake these plastic pieces for food, leading to dreadful consequences.

“These plastics are many times eaten by wild animals, and they also die. We have observed wild animal dung full of plastic. Big pieces. Leave aside issues of microplastics,” the IFS officer wrote in his post on X.

Kaswan also mentioned that the presence of plastic bottles is another sign of the reckless footprints left behind by visitors. “Even plastic bottles. People come and leave their footprints behind. Which is totally unnecessary,” he mentioned.

The Superintendent of Police, students, and a local NGO supported this initiative, reflecting a sense of awareness to keep forest areas clean. As soon as the post was shared, online users were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.

A user mentioned, “Plastic cover ban (limited success) is not enough. There should be a ban on all plastic packaging.” “Such a powerful initiative! It’s heartwarming to see people coming together to clean up our precious forests. Let’s continue to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our environment,” a comment read.

A while ago, Parveen Kaswan shared photos that showed two people carrying a load of garbage across what appears to be a dried-up river bed. While sharing these photos, Kaswan wrote, “Dukchen Bhutia is our range officer. Went to the field with a group. Found a lot of trash thrown by tourists and decided to collect it all. She is showing the way. In Forest behave like animals, they don’t spread trash.”
