A social media user encountered one of the most horrifying situations of her life during her trip to Bali when she stumbled upon a massive spider colony spread across electric wires. She shared a glimpse of this unsettling sight on Instagram, where the video quickly gained traction. In the clip, the woman begins by cautioning viewers that if they’re seeking a reason to avoid Bali, this is it.

The camera then pans to reveal thousands of spiders spanning a vast area, creating a chilling spectacle. The size of the spiders adds to the fear factor, leaving viewers unsettled. Text overlay on the video reads, “This is the worst thing you’ll see in Bali or anywhere.” In the caption, the user apologises for potentially causing nightmares and describes the scene as a natural phenomenon encountered midway through a drive from Ubud to Mt Batur, where spiderwebs stretched about twenty meters with thousands of spiders.

Despite the terrifying nature of the video, the user clarifies that such occurrences are rare and limited to specific remote areas in Bali. The clip has amassed over 51 million views, eliciting mixed reactions from users. Some expressed extreme dread, with one stating they would have fainted upon witnessing the scene. Conversely, others provided reassurance, identifying the spiders as Golden Orb Weavers, which are generally harmless despite their intimidating appearance. One user questioned the widespread fear of spiders, likening them to ants and asserting that fear of such creatures is unwarranted.

According to the Mayo Clinic, spider bites are typically harmless, as spiders usually only bite when threatened. While spider bites can cause redness, pain and swelling, only a few spider species possess long fangs and potent venom capable of penetrating human skin to cause harm.
