It is generally believed that chameleons are experts at changing their colour. Do you know that many creatures on earth change their colour in a moment? For example, sea creatures like seahorses, golden tortoise beetles, Pacific tree frogs and scorpion fish change their colour in a few seconds. But for the first time in Britain, an octopus has been seen changing its colour. This rare sight has been captured on camera, and people were left stunned. According to a media report, Sierra Taylor, head of Wales’ Marine Conservation Society (MCS), was trying to identify creatures around the Menai Bridge in Anglesey one day, when some people present there saw some tentacles. One of them saw some fibres coming out from under the rock. As soon as Taylor reached there, she saw that a creature was coming out and started crawling back towards the sea. They could not believe it after seeing it. Because it was an octopus, which was changing colour.
Taylor said that as soon as the octopus took out its head, its skin immediately changed from brown to bright orange. This was a rare sight. Never before has an octopus been seen changing colour like this. It was an amazing view. In an attempt to hide itself from predators, the octopus changes its skin to the colour of various rocks and corals. “It was an amazing reminder of the beautiful wildlife we have in North Wales and why we need to protect it," she added.
Angus Jackson, data officer at MCS, said that coloured octopuses are found here all the time, but this scene was different. It changed colour immediately in front of our eyes. In the summer of 2022, a sudden increase in the number of octopuses was seen in this area of Wales. Now their conservation work is going on.
