A woman in China allegedly placed her two children on an outdoor air conditioning unit on the 23rd floor during a dispute with her husband. The incident occurred on October 10 in Luoyang, Henan province. A video of the incident was shared on the Chinese social media platform Weibo and went viral, with over 55 million views.
According to the South China Morning Post, the dispute escalated to the point where the mother made her two children—a boy and a girl—sit on the air conditioning unit outside the window on the 23rd floor. Witnesses reported that the children appeared uncomfortable, with the girl visibly crying while the boy seemed somewhat calmer.
The children’s mother stood in front of the windowsill inside the room, blocking the father’s access to the kids. Concerned neighbours alerted the police after hearing the girl’s cries. A firefighting team was dispatched to rescue the children.
According to SCMP, a representative of the local Women and Children’s Federation said, “The firefighting vehicle came and the children were rescued,” and that they were investigating the incident.
The police are currently investigating the incident, although it’s unclear whether the mother will face any consequences.
In a separate incident in China, a man was arrested for allegedly whipping his two sons, aged 5 and 8, with an electric wire. According to the Global Times, this aggressive punishment occurred after the boys were reported to have written on neighbours’ vehicles.
The children were subsequently taken for a medical evaluation, which revealed multiple bruises and soft tissue injuries across their bodies. Local authorities responded swiftly after the incident was reported, leading to the father’s arrest. An investigation is ongoing to gather more details about the abuse.
