A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the island nation of Papua New Guinea sounding off a tsunami warning.
Authorities have warned of a the possibility of a tsunami within 300 kilometers of the quake's epicenter. Tuesday's quake was centered in the same area as the two earthquakes that rocked Papua New Guinea last week.
A 5.6 magnitude quake had also struck Papua New Guinea on Monday. Neither of the quakes have caused damage or generated a tsunami so far.
The quake, downgraded from an initial estimate of 7.5, struck around 0140 GMT at a depth of 63 km and was the latest in a series of strong tremors to hit the region.
Susan McGrade, owner of the Rabaul Hotel in Rabaul, told Reuters that the quake was felt strongly in the city, with water splashing out of the swimming pool, but there were no immediate signs damage.
